Nobody would ever know

1:40pm - 2:30pm BST [UTC +00:00]

Main Hall

“Nobody would ever know” travels through invisible professional and personal journeys.

This reflective presentation uses words, poems and images exploring Invisible Intersections. Some parents describe feeling judged by what is seen, feeling nobody knows how it is for them every day.

In DDP a mother said:

“I feel I live in a different universe
I hide my mental ill health
I don’t fit in statutory boxes
In DDP I felt understood…
I had to push you away…
and you stayed”

In DDP Level Two training we explore our attachment histories, here Nikki wondered about her dual experiences of being a professional and of voicing her personal journey. She became increasingly aware of the silence around mental ill health.

We ask families to explore their attachment histories and to do this it is imperative that we connect to our own.

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you”

Maya Angelou

As a DDP Practitioner Nikki often reflects upon how useful DDP would have been in her early years. Nikki believes had DDP been offered, she wouldn’t have spent years isolated, struggling alone and then becoming stuck in mental health services and treatment facilities.
