Different Strokes

Performance

11:50am - 12:40pm BST [UTC +00:00]

Conference Room 3

Different Strokes performance piece is an insightful, playful and thought-provoking performance exploring the intersection of race, adoption, gender, class, cultural/racial heritage and age. Our performance incorporates compassionate PACEful ways to explore how identifiers such as privilege and power intersect with developmental trauma.

This performance is seen through the eyes of a dyadic parent-child duo: a Black Woman and a Mixed Heritage Boy. Rather than defining a person by a set of characteristics, our intention is to challenge the audience to think and be curious about their own relationship to power and the pull of overlapping intersections of social, economic, political, and gender differences and the impact of discrimination and privilege.

This performance is inspired by the personal stories of Lucy, her clients and gently weaves in the creative and metaphorical stories of her son Danny. We are delighted to perform Different Strokes, a multi-media performance piece that incorporates music, spoken word, visual projections, humour, sign language, dance and movement.
