About Shani

Shani Sephton is a Black British Caribbean professional who has worked with children and families for over 17 years; eight of which as a social worker culminating in becoming a team manager in post-adoption support.

Shani entered social work to support children with care experience and adoption histories. This was influenced by witnessing her nieces and nephews being in the care of the local authority and adopted out of her family. This lived experience lens supported Shani to approach her work with children and families with compassion, humility and equity in order to amplify voices that are often silenced.

More recently this path has extended to include a career change as Shani felt that she wanted to work more therapeutically than social work would allow. Her special interest is promoting racial equity, social justice and increasing inclusion for neurodivergent people.

Shani is currently training as a clinical psychologist and anticipates that this will enhance her relational and holistic work with families. Shani has completed DDP Levels One and Two and works in private practice mainly with adoptive families impacted by multiple attachment relationships and developmental trauma.
