About Julie

Julie has delivered psychological therapy and undertaken assessments for children and families, since completing her Doctorate with the University of Plymouth (2007). Initially in the NHS (until 2015) and subsequently in private practice.

She specialises in care-experienced children. She fell in love with DDP during her clinical training and has a long-standing research interest in finding creative ways to support care-experienced children and young people give meaningful feedback on their psychological therapies. This started with her own doctoral research project. Currently, she has been delighted to be part of the research team exploring children’s experiences of DDP.

Julie has also authored over 50 therapeutic stories to support care-experienced children and young people to explore their pasts and makes sense of their present via projective identification with story characters. These are freely available on her YouTube channel. She is based in Swansea, South Wales, where she also enjoys the Gower Beaches with her family and dog.
